How to use the Zigbee Yago water quality meter?
Before installing the Yago BLE-YL01 water quality meter in your pool, let’s connect it to the Zigbee home automation hub.
For this, if you use a Tuya hub, you have to go to the Smart Life application.
And launch inclusion mode.
At this point, you must press the red button on the monitor for 5 seconds, the red LED starts flashing indicating that the device is in association mode.
After a few seconds, the BLE-YL01 meter will be available on the Smart Life interface.
So now you will have real-time control of the measurements.
With Home Assistant or Jeedom, go to the Zigbee2mqtt interface and launch the inclusion mode.
The process is similar, you have to press the red button on the monitor for 5 seconds, the red LED starts flashing indicating that the device is in association mode.
Done, you now have the BLE-YL01 meter available on the Zigbee2mqtt interface.
We are going to have access to the measurements of the water quality meter BLE-YL01 in real time but first, we must perform an additional manipulation. We must go to “Development Console” and enter the cluster 0xEF00, the command 0x03 and hit execute.
The Yago BLE-YL01 meter values should now be displayed and updated every 10 minutes.
Very important! Many users make 2 common mistakes that are detrimental to the proper use of the device.
The first big mistake is forgetting to remove the sensor caps inside the green cover of the BLE-YL01 meter.
If you do not remove these covers, you will have incoherent measurements, so you should take this criterion into account for a good use of the device.
The second big mistake is to tighten the 2 plugs of the BLE-YL01 meter with your hands. Even if you think it is tightened properly, water will infiltrate the device and damage it for good.
What you need to do is to tighten these 2 plugs correctly with the spanner that is included with the BLE-YL01 meter.
Now that you have this information, you can safely put your BLE-YL01 meter in the pool.
And as you can see, it floats well and you will be able to monitor the water quality of this pool from your phone.
In addition to these 2 frequent errors, another detail to take into account is the calibration of the device.
By default, this BLE-YL01 meter is calibrated, which means that you will have it functional from the beginning to have measurements of your pool.
However, over time, in order to continue to have reliable pH and ORP measurements, it is necessary to carry out calibrations so as not to damage the quality of your pool water by overdosing or underdosing with products due to inaccurate measurements.
If you use this BLE-YL01 meter during the summer season, it is recommended to calibrate it once a year at the beginning of the season.
But if you use this BLE-YL01 meter all year round, in this case, it is advisable to do calibrations twice a year, at the beginning of each semester.
And to perform this calibration, even if you have a Home Assistant or Jeedom hub with Zigbee2MQTT to use this Yago BLE-YL01 water quality meter, I recommend doing this calibration with a Tuya hub such as one of the Nous brand or any other that usually has a cost of 15 to 20 euros.
This calibration is performed with 3 products of pH 4, pH 7 and pH 10 plus an ORP product of 222 mV.

It is for single use only and you will need to purchase additional products from any online shop for subsequent calibrations over time.
If for some reason, even though you have performed calibration, the BLE-YL01 meter is still transmitting incorrect pH values, you can check this with an electronic pH sensor.
Or pH strips.
You should know that you can buy a replacement pH sensor that you can install in your BLE-YL01 meter.
And thanks to the measurements of this device, you will be able to act at key moments such as, for example, putting pH – product when you have a high pH level or the other way round, putting pH + product when you have a low pH level.
If you have a low salt level, you can add more salt, and if you have a high salt level, you can remove water from the pool. If there is a lack of chlorine, you can add more chlorine.
If you have a high concentration of particles, you can filter longer.
By the way, as we have seen in other content, measuring the water temperature is another key piece of information for managing the pool’s filtration time.

With the additional use of a Zigbee module or Zigbee plug to control the filtration of the pool and thus, to be able to automate the filtration time of this pool according to the water temperature measurements of this sensor and of course, the temperature measurements of your city.

- Your pool should maintain a pH between 6.5 and 8, and an ORP between 487 and 840 mV. The chlorine concentration will be displayed as normal. If any of these measurements are outside the specified range, the chlorine level will not be visible.
