Features of the Aqara G410 video doorphone

The video doorphone is black, but is also available in white. Its dimensions are 141.5 mm x 65 mm x 30.4 mm.

Aesthetically, it retains an elegant, minimalist design, designed to blend discreetly into the entrance to the home.

When installed outdoors, it is of course designed to operate in extreme conditions, from -18°C to +50°C and with a humidity level of 0 to 95% RH.

This video door entry system uses a proprietary protocol to communicate with the doorbell, which in turn connects via Wi-Fi, acting as an intermediary between your telephone and the Aqara video door entry system itself.

On the front we find the camera with sensor and the ring button with an LED indicator that changes colour depending on whether you are close or ringing.

The camera has a 175° field of view, which is an improvement on the 162° field of view of the G4.

We have this image in 4:3 and f/1.8 aperture with 2K resolution, which allows us to have greater sharpness when viewing live or reviewing recordings, which is another improvement since the previous model we have already discovered in this channel has 1080P resolution.

The phone lets you zoom in to see more detail in a specific area of the image.

We have night vision with built-in infrared LEDs, so we can clearly see a person near the video doorbell in the dark and recognise the person standing in front of it.

This video doorphone system does not incorporate a PIR sensor, but a millimetre-wave radar sensor, which enables it to recognise people more accurately and avoid false alarms as far as possible, such as cars, trees or any other object likely to cause false alarms.

In terms of power, you have two options: 6 AA batteries with an estimated life of 5 months, or a 12 or 24 V AC or DC power supply.

Interestingly, if we connect it to a power supply, we can have recordings 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We can also take advantage of RTSP integration with home automation systems such as Home Assistant or Jeedom.

Every time someone approaches you, you’ll receive a notification on your phone. Thanks to its local AI, the device is able to tell the difference between known and unknown people.

It features an enhanced two-way audio system that allows you to hear and speak to the person in front of the door with clearer quality, while reducing ambient noise.

At the bottom is a backlit alarm button, which is larger and more visible than on the previous model, making it easier to use at any time of day.

This button incorporates an LED that lights up blue when someone approaches and red when the buzzer is used or the camera is live.

Underneath is a QR code for easy connection to Apple HomeKit or integration into other compatible ecosystems.

On the side, there is a security screw and an alarm that goes off if anyone tries to dismantle the product, to prevent theft.

Aqara doorbell features

To start with, it measures 65 × 65.2 × 28.4 mm and is available in black or white. It must be installed inside the house, and Aqara recommends a maximum distance of 10 metres between the video doorbell and the doorbell.

Although it can operate at greater distances, it is best to keep to this guideline to ensure reliability.
It communicates wirelessly via Wi-Fi, so it’s important to have a good network at home for it to work properly.

Another practical detail is that you can connect it to your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WIFI network.

Many smart devices can only connect to a 2.4 GHz network, but this smart video doorphone can connect on both frequencies.

In some contexts, an Ethernet port could be useful for greater stability, although the Wi-Fi connection makes it much easier to install in any area.

Every time someone presses the button on the video doorbell, the doorbell rings inside the house.

The device is powered via the USB-C port. Only the cable is included in the box, so you’ll need to buy an additional power adapter to plug it in.

An interesting detail is the presence of a microSD port that supports cards of up to 512 GB (not included).

This means that recordings can be stored locally 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, depending on the capacity of the card.

However, Aqara points out that 24/7 continuous recording is only possible if the video doorphone is connected to the mains, to avoid excessive battery consumption if batteries are used.

The advantage of this storage is that the data is stored in the doorbell, which is inside the house. So even if someone steals the outside video doorbell, the image of the intruder is recorded.

It also includes a QR code for a quick link with Apple HomeKit. The doorbell also features a 95dB siren and you can choose different tones or even upload your own personalised audio file.

At the top is a physical button for easy connection to the application.

It has an LED indicator, which lights up blue when it’s on standby and red when someone rings the doorbell. It’s also a Matter, Thread and Zigbee hub, which could be interesting if you want to unify your smart home installation with any Matter device in the same interface, bearing in mind that it’s a Thread Border Router, meaning you’ll be able to connect Matter devices via Thread.

It is also a Thread Mesh Extender, meaning that it repeats the signal between Thread devices. But with Zigbee devices, you specifically need to choose Zigbee devices from the same brand as Aqara. And speaking of compatibility, you can also use this video doorbell with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings and, as mentioned earlier, Home Assistant and Jeedom.

How to install the Aqara G410 video doorphone

To install this video door entry system, you can attach it using the adhesive included on the back.

This user has also installed the new Aqara camera in part of his garden.

Users who already have a 24 V power supply for their electric gate will also use it to connect their Aqara video door entry system.

And it’s a recommended solution for avoiding battery maintenance and also for integrating this device into your Jeedom home automation hub.

Very important: you must have electrical clearance, adequate protection, make sure that the power is off and that no-one can switch it on while you are wiring, and you must check that there is no power. If this is not the case, I recommend that you call in a professional to carry out the electrical wiring. To properly cover the area captured by the video doorphone system, the user should install the angle bracket supplied to take advantage of the tilt.

And of course, to install it correctly, use a level and mark the drilling points with the support.

Drill the hole and fit the bracket with its screws.

Now fit the video doorphone and screw it in place.

Connect the power supply wires to the two screws inside the door station, where the electrical connection is made.

Finally, you can mount the video doorphone on its plate and screw it to the side.

It’s worth noting that in the case of another user, the installation of his Aqara G4 smart doorbell was simpler as he used adhesive and batteries, so if you don’t want to call an electrician and don’t have the necessary knowledge, you also have this installation option.

Another practical detail is that Aqara sells a separate, user-installed waterproof cover made from weatherproof plastic to protect the smart doorbell from rain, snow and dust.

As the area where the smart doorbell is installed does not have a porch or terrace, it could be more directly exposed to rain, sun and dust.

Now you’re going to install the doorbell inside your home, plugging it into the power supply with the included cable, but adding a plug that’s not included and you need to install this as close as possible to the smart doorbell, because Aqara recommends not installing it more than 10 metres away to get enough signal.

This doorbell comes with a sticker on the back for wall mounting.

How do I link the Aqara G410 to the Aqara application?

To use the smart doorbell, once we’ve connected both devices to their power supplies, we need to go to the Aqara application and click on ‘More’ and then on ‘Add an accessory’.

In our case, the smart doorbell appears automatically in the interface.

We need to scan its QR code.

And we need to give details of our WIFI network.

Ready, the smart doorbell is now available in the Aqara application.

Detailed features of the Aqara G410 intelligent doorbell

At the top of the application interface, the signal strength icon is displayed, allowing you to check the status of the device in real time and view the live feed from the smart doorbell camera, full screen and with the ability to digitally zoom in and out.

As soon as someone approaches the device, an immediate notification is received on the phone. You are also notified when a ringing tone is activated or when someone is waiting without answering.

Then, under ‘Common’, we have various options. The “Integrated events” option lets you configure the events you want to track.

Linked devices” allow us to control them from the current page, for example by opening an Aqara lock installed on a door.

The “Albums” section lets you view screenshots, videos and videos of events in the cloud.

The “Whole House Surveillance” option allows you to view all Aqara appliances fitted with a camera.

The “Video Event History” option allows you to view all the activities recorded by our intelligent doorbell, such as chimes, motion detections and tamper alerts, each accompanied by a short video.

In the “Playback” tab, you can view the complete log of recorded events by date, and you can display it by event or as a timeline with the option of filtering.

The ‘Search’ tab lets you search for videos using artificial intelligence.

In the ‘AI detection’ tab, we have various options, such as using AI to search for videos by entering keywords.

We can activate a summary in a video line using artificial intelligence.

We can activate face detection to receive personalised alerts telling us which members of our family have been detected.

We will therefore receive notifications containing the name of the person we have previously added to the list of faces.

It is also possible to define the sensitivity, period and time interval of the detection.

You can set options when the ringtone sounds, such as activating or deactivating notifications, videos of the event and even activating a ‘do not disturb’ mode so that you do not receive alerts at certain times, for example during the night.

Then we have an anti-sabotage alarm which, as I mentioned, can be activated and will ring if someone tries to steal the doorbell.

In “Vagrant detection” we have options such as receiving notifications if a stranger is detected, recording videos, we can configure the length of stay, the detection range in metres to avoid receiving too many alerts if, for example, we install this intelligent doorbell in a street where there is a lot of movement of people. We can also define a detection period and a time interval and activate the doorbell when someone approaches.

In the top right-hand corner, you can access other settings for this smart doorbell.

Firstly, if we access the “Device configuration”, we can see the doorbell signal, which is generally weak in the user’s case, given that he has placed the doorbell around 15 metres from the video doorphone system and that Aqara recommends not exceeding 10 metres.

This is one of the details that needs to be improved, as in the case of the 2 users who installed this video doorphone in France: as the entrance to the garden is a long way from the house, the distance causes a more unstable signal, which affects both the speed of the connection and the quality of the transmission.

This may be a function that can be optimised with a new update, but it’s important to bear in mind this criterion: having the doorbell within 10 metres of the video doorphone.

Then we have modifiable ringtone settings. We can also configure the ringtone and its volume.

We can activate built-in events so that the smart doorbell acts like a security camera.

As mentioned above, this smart doorbell also incorporates RTSP protocol if you have plugged it into the mains, which is useful for retrieving videos locally on another platform.

As in the case of users with the Jeedom home automation hub, they will be able to bring together images from their Aqara camera, their Aqara smart doorbell and control other devices in the home, all from the same interface, just like Home Assistant.

We can activate or deactivate a security password to access the device.

We may also receive notifications, if we so wish, when the device is offline.

Under “Video settings”, we can activate the timestamp overlay.

You can adjust the brightness of the video.

Infrared night vision can also be activated, deactivated or set to automatic mode.

Another interesting option is the ability to create masking zones.

These are areas where images will not be recorded, which is a very practical detail to avoid recording areas where you don’t have permission or for any other privacy-related reason.

You can also activate or deactivate audio recording of videos.

Next, if we go to ‘Notifications’, we can configure the type of notification, either by events such as a person detected or even summary notifications with a phrase based on artificial intelligence, such as that a postman has been detected delivering a parcel.

We can schedule a notification period and block notifications we consider unimportant.

“IA Premium Events” is a paid function that allows us to receive personalised events, such as events linked to the type of car, the package, the animal, a person’s activity, and so on.

The Home Guardian service currently costs €9.99 per month or €99.99 per year. The service allows users to store videos for 90 days, show clips of events, filter videos using artificial intelligence, receive SMS and e-mail alerts, have unlimited storage space, view videos offline, download and share them, and ensure data security and confidentiality.

But it’s worth noting that we’ll have the essential functions of the smart doorbell at no monthly charge.

We can then activate or deactivate notifications for face detection, door bells, anti-sabotage alarm and wandering person detection.

Under “Event video in the cloud”, we can decide to enable or disable roaming, ringing and tampering alarm for videos in the cloud.

Face management” lets you add photos of family members to receive personalised events.
